September Board Meeting

Board Meeting Minutes

Date: Sunday September 28th, 2008

In Attendance: Mike Runningwolf, Kevin Nehila, Scott Bishop, Dave Ross, Liz Skoro

1. The possibility of restructuring workouts as the team grows.

Group A: training for goal races
Group B: People with no long term goal, not as much experience, running for social reasons, or recovering from injuries.
Group C: Walkers

Once again, the groups will remain fluid.

2. One small membership fee only instead of optional training plans

The group thought we needed more information before we could effectively deliberate about this topic.

3. Official race calendar for team apex 5kers, 10kers, and marathoners.

We thought this was a good idea. However, the issue was brought up that those planning races into the schedule ought to consider how many races they write in; The cost can really add up when you race a lot.

One idea for dealing with the cost of races were to meet with Mike Shuman about which races he gets for free before making up the schedule.

4. Rounding up volunteers for upcoming health and fitness fair Oct. 18-19, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 10-4 and the structure to promote Team Apex.

The group went around and committed to different times to come volunteer.
Dave can make it on Sunday
Kevin can make it both Saturday and Sunday
Mikey can make it both Saturday and Sunday
Scott can probably make it on both days
Elisabeth will be running in and out, and she’ll bring y’all chocolate chip cookies.

5. Ideas for team building runs and annual team building events. Keep Payette lake run/camp as annual event? What else?

Ideas and who suggested them:
a) Keep the Payette Lake Run (everyone)
b) Relays (general)
c) Liz’s Annual Murder Mystery Potluck (This year’s will be in late October/ early November and will have a Chicago Mafia/40’s theme.)
d) Turkey Trot Relay? (general)
e) Rainier to Pacific? (Dave)
f) Camping with everyone (Liz)
g) Oregon coast trip (Liz’s weird little fantasy—much like the one where we were all in San Francisco on the wharf sitting around a butcher block table eating clam chowder out of bread bowls)
h) Geocaching? (Liz. Does anyone have a portable GPS system?)
i) Toga Party (See Dave for details and liquor suggestions)

6. Time of Saturday practices for Fall/Winter

8 a.m.

7. How to effectively use our partners/sponsors for promotion of Team Apex.
We thought it might be cool to have a meet and greet on a Thursday or something at Mike Shuman’s shop. We could include members’ success stories and testimonials.

8. Next shirts/singlets/jackets/hats/magnets/stickers . . .any promotional items, colors, logos, mantras, etc. “stuff” to get us noticed.

Here were some ideas:
Something our runners can wear with the uniform that isn’t black or white. The idea would be that this would allow spectator members of the group to tell when a Team Apex runner is about to run by.
Temporary tattoos
Car decals
Gloves (the cheap kind we can pass out at cold races)
Something useful (Scott wants Team Apex Biofreeze. Liz speaks up for the fat kids when she says that Team Apex body glide would be more useful.)
Bumper stickers
license plate frames.
Team and public educational clinics. Where? Shu will send bulk e-mail) Our office, other

9. Other Topics and Conclusions
What about off-day organized runs? It was brought up that we could start some sort of forum or e-mail list to organize these. Liz thought it would be nice if she could access this from work.
Kevin was wondering about the thing with Shu’s providing discounts/free shoes for those who meet performances standards. How does this work?
Scott has decided that he really enjoys Sunray CafĂ©’s pizza
Kevin wants more women on the board and is considering a moratorium on inviting any more male members. Apparently, Liz is not woman enough for the Team Apex board. ;)
